URGENT UPDATE: John A. Pickar, beloved community member and family man, has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 62. He died on October 14, 2025Duluth, Minnesota, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and friendship that touched countless lives.
Born on October 3, 1963, John graduated from East High School in Duluth before earning a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from UMD. He dedicated his career to Great Lakes Office Solutions and was a devoted member of the Rotary Club, where he actively contributed to community projects.
John is survived by his mother, Peg Pickar, and his siblings, Christine Beck, Bruce (Amber) Pickar, and Andrew (Kate) Pickar. The family is also mourning the loss of their father, Arthur Pickar, who preceded John in death. John’s passing has left a void felt deeply by his nieces and nephews: Joshua (Desiree) Butler, Arelle Kauffman, Danyell (Andrew) Cameron, Josie Pickar, Elise Pickar, and Frances Pickar.
John’s faith guided his life, and he had a passion for outdoor activities, including snowmobiling, hunting, and fishing. He cherished the annual fishing opener, where he created lasting memories with friends. His time spent at the deer shack in Finland was particularly special, filled with laughter, cribbage games, and reflective moments waiting for the perfect deer.
An avid collector of old beer cans, John was a proud member of the Beer Can Collectors of America. Known for his humor and caring nature, he had a unique ability to connect with everyone he met, making friends wherever he went. His kindness and generosity were hallmarks of his character.
