BREAKING: Lorraine F. Lease, a cherished educator and community volunteer, has passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at St. Luke’s Hospice in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, on January 9, 2026. Known for her dedication to teaching and community service, her legacy continues to inspire those around her.
Born on December 11, 1931, in Upper Darby, PA, Lorraine was the beloved wife of the late George M. Lease, who died on February 22, 2003. She earned her teaching degree from Kutztown University and a Master’s degree in Education from Lehigh University. For over 30 years, Lorraine taught elementary education, with 20 years dedicated to the Bethlehem Area School District.
Lorraine’s retirement was marked by her passion for travel, tennis, golf, and skiing. A lifelong learner, she loved reading, solving crossword puzzles, and participating in the Moravian Village chorus. She also generously volunteered for organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the Allentown Art Museum, and the New Bethany soup kitchen. Her contributions to the community have left a lasting impact.
Survived by her sisters, Althea Lazun and Joyce Hess, as well as stepdaughters Joan Johnson and Susan Baier, Lorraine leaves behind a large family, including 6 step-grandchildren, 7 step-great-grandchildren, and 6 step-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Roberta Florey.
A Memorial Service will take place at Central Moravian Church on March 20, 2026, at 11:00 AM. A private family inurnment will occur at a later date at Bethlehem Memorial Park.
