Man Drowns While Fishing at San Mateo County Beach; Warning Issued

URGENT UPDATE: A tragic drowning incident occurred Wednesday afternoon at Bean Hollow State Beach near Pescadero, California, as a man fishing with his wife vanished from sight. Emergency responders from Cal Fire San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit rushed to the scene around 3 p.m. after receiving reports of a person in distress in the water.

The victim’s wife reported that they were both wearing waders when he disappeared. According to Cal Fire, she left briefly to retrieve something from their car, and upon returning, her husband was gone. A nearby bystander spotted the man, but despite immediate rescue efforts by firefighters, who administered CPR, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

This incident marks the fourth drowning off the California coast in recent weeks, raising concerns about safety. On November 22, Amanpreet Thind, a 35-year-old U.S. Army specialist from New Jersey, was swept away at Soberanes Point, while a week earlier, Yuji Hu, aged 39, and his 7-year-old daughter tragically lost their lives in rough waters off Garrapata State Beach.

In light of these events, the National Weather Service has issued a “beach hazards” warning for the San Mateo County area, predicting breaking waves between 10 to 14 feet that could pose significant dangers to beachgoers.

As authorities continue to investigate this heartbreaking incident, community members are reminded to exercise caution in potentially hazardous conditions.
