Marjorie Sack Hobday, 95, Passes Away Surrounded by Family

URGENT UPDATE: Marjorie Sack Hobday, aged 95, has passed away peacefully at her home in Burnt Hills, NY, on October 30, 2025. Surrounded by her loving family, this beloved matriarch leaves behind a legacy of creativity and community spirit.

Born on April 8, 1930, in Niskayuna, NY, Marjorie was the daughter of the late Kenneth Palmer and Florence Louise Sack. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Richard G. Hobday, and her brothers, Gordon and Kenneth Sack.

Marjorie’s life was rich with music and community engagement. She and Richard were active members of various musical groups, including the Schenectady Choral Society and the Burnt Hills Oratorio Society. Their musical journey also included contributions to church choirs, notably at Calvary Church, which became their musical home.

A child of the Great Depression, Marjorie embodied resilience and creativity, often crafting and sewing essentials for her family. She took immense joy in gardening, nurturing beauty both indoors and in her outdoor spaces. Her summers were spent at their cherished camp on the Sacandaga Reservoir, where she and Richard created countless memories filled with wildlife and outdoor adventures.

Marjorie’s passion for the arts was evident in her love for writing and painting. For over 40 years, she and Richard hosted an annual Holiday Art Show Open House, showcasing their work to the community.

Marjorie is survived by her son, Gordon (Carol) Hobday; daughters Wendy (Charles) Haugh and JoAnn (Richard) Massad; and grandchildren Katherine, Anne, Henry, Joshua (Elizabeth), Zachary (Andrea), Nicholas (Monica). She also leaves behind great-grandchildren Lilliana, Maxwell, and Freya, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a sister-in-law, Virginia Sack.

A Mass celebrating Marjorie’s life will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Calvary Episcopal Church, located at 85 Lake Hill Rd, Burnt Hills, NY. Following the service, attendees are invited to a reception in the church hall. Marjorie will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the Calvary Episcopal Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Calvary Episcopal Church or the Estherville Animal Shelter in Greenfield Center, NY.
