UPDATE: The Palos Verdes football team triumphed over Inglewood with a decisive 31-12 victory in a critical Bay League matchup on October 24, 2025. This win is pivotal for both teams as they vie for playoff spots in the CIF Southern Section.
Quarterback Ryan Rakowski, celebrating his 18th birthday, returned from a one-game suspension to lead the Sea Kings. He threw two touchdown passes and showcased his agility, finishing with 131 yards passing and 40 yards rushing. Palos Verdes established dominance early, achieving a first-half shutout against a struggling Inglewood team.
The Sea Kings’ defense was a standout, highlighted by Nick Yakubik, who intercepted two passes in the second half. “The whole defensive staff worked hard all week,” said head coach Guy Gardner. “They executed our defense much better than we’ve done in the past.”
“It hurt me not to be out there with the guys. Especially the senior class, any game I’m not out there with them it just really hurts,” Rakowski stated.
The matchup was crucial, as both teams entered in a three-way tie for second place in the league, alongside Mira Costa. With only one week remaining in the regular season, the pressure is mounting to secure one of the league’s three automatic playoff bids. Palos Verdes (6-3, 3-1) will conclude their regular season away at Mira Costa on Halloween night, while Inglewood (4-5, 2-2) faces Culver City at home.
Inglewood’s absence of top running back Semaj Welch, a 1,000-yard rusher, significantly impacted their performance. Head coach Mil’Von James indicated Welch is “a little banged up,” leaving the Sentinels struggling offensively. They fell behind quickly, trailing 14-0 at halftime.
Quarterback Lincoln Jahn, who finished the game with 219 yards passing, connected with wide receiver Donovin Randolph for a 53-yard touchdown to open the second half. However, an unsuccessful extra point kept them at 14-6.
Rakowski quickly responded, leading a scoring drive that culminated in a 23-yard touchdown pass to Camren Hughes, extending the Sea Kings’ lead to 21-6. The Sea Kings capitalized on Inglewood’s mistakes, including critical turnovers and penalties.
Inglewood attempted a late-game comeback, with Jahn throwing a 59-yard touchdown to Andre Williams, but it was too late to alter the outcome. Palos Verdes capped the scoring with a 41-yard touchdown run by reserve running back Christian Reis.
The victory not only provides momentum for Palos Verdes as they head into the final week of the season but also serves as a redemption from last year’s 37-3 loss to Inglewood, who went on to win the Bay League title.
As the playoff race heats up, all eyes will be on these teams in the coming days. Fans can expect an electrifying finish to the regular season.
