UPDATE: Reality star Fraser Olender, known from Bravo’s “Below Deck,” has revealed a terrifying health crisis linked to vaping, urging others to quit immediately. The 33-year-old television personality shared his shocking medical ordeal on Instagram, detailing how he suffered a heart attack and serious lung injury.
Just weeks ago, Olender was hospitalized in London due to severe chest pains and breathing issues. After an intense week with specialists, he was diagnosed with E-cigarette or Vaping-Associated Lung Injury (EVALI), a dangerous condition classified by the American Lung Association as potentially fatal.
“I have never experienced fear or pain like it,” Olender stated in his post. His diagnosis triggered a coronary artery vasospasm, which led to an ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), commonly known as a heart attack. He clarified that the attack was not due to a blockage but resulted from reduced blood flow caused by the spasm, which prevented his heart from getting enough oxygen.
The pain was excruciating, with Olender revealing that even two rounds of morphine failed to alleviate his suffering. “I required the strongest legal pain medication available in the emergency room,” he said.
Now recovering, Olender feels a strong responsibility to share his story. “If this experience can help even one person rethink vaping, it’s worth telling,” he continued. “I could have died for the sake of something so ridiculously stupid, so please do yourselves a favor and give it up too – cold turkey.”
