UPDATE: The Redondo Union boys basketball team exploded onto the court with a commanding 87-61 victory over Democracy Prep from Las Vegas during Harvard-Westlake’s Winter Showcase on January 5, 2024. This win marks the Sea Hawks’ third straight victory, improving their record to 3-0 this season.
The Sea Hawks, determined to rebound from last season’s heartbreak where they fell just short of the CIF State finals, demonstrated their aggressive playstyle that has been their hallmark this year. After a tight first quarter, Redondo unleashed a staggering 21-6 run that transformed a close contest into a decisive lead.
Star player SJ Madison led the charge with an impressive 23 points, alongside six rebounds, four steals, and two blocks. His performance shifted the game’s momentum, especially in the second half where he scored eight of the first twelve points, pushing the Sea Hawks’ advantage to a whopping 31 points at one stage.
Teammate Devin Wright added 17 points, while Chris Sanders contributed 14 points and six rebounds, showcasing a well-rounded team effort. Madison emphasized their commitment to improving, stating, “We are trying to beat everyone. We don’t want to lose at all.”
Despite the successful outcome, head coach Reggie Morris urged his team to elevate their game in upcoming matches. “We didn’t get off to a good start in the first half. I just told my guys that they have to start playing with more urgency and get more aggressive on defense,” he noted. Morris acknowledged Madison’s standout performance and highlighted the need for Wright to continue developing his aggressive play.
Looking ahead, Redondo Union’s challenging nonleague schedule is aimed at preparing them for a competitive Bay League and the upcoming CIF-SS Playoffs. As the Sea Hawks continue to refine their tactics, fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if they can maintain this momentum and learn from last season’s lessons.
As the season progresses, Redondo Union remains a formidable contender, fueled by the desire to reclaim their spot among the best in California high school basketball. Keep an eye on the Sea Hawks as they aim for greatness this year.
