Trailing by 12 points, San Pedro showed resilience and determination, outscoring their rivals 20-10 in the fourth quarter to force an overtime showdown.
San Pedro’s star, Ricky Alonso, played a pivotal role, scoring 21 points with 15 points coming in the clutch moments of the fourth quarter and overtime. “We had to come together offensively, knowing our strengths, and we played harder on defense,” Alonso stated after the game, highlighting the team’s unity during a challenging start.
The Pirates faced a tough test as Palos Verdes took a slim lead in overtime thanks to Luke Dalis, who made a pair of free throws to put PV ahead 58-57. Cui led all scorers with an impressive 28 points, but it was San Pedro’s teamwork and tenacity that shone through in the end. “Guys were putting their head down,” Alonso reflected on the early struggles. “Things then started going our way, we started making shots and making a run.”
