UPDATE: The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce held an urgent ceremony last night, November 5, 2025, at the SCV Senior Center to honor local veterans for their ongoing contributions to the community. Dignitaries and community members gathered to celebrate the dedication of these heroes who continue to serve after their military careers.
Six veterans were recognized for their impactful roles within the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) community, including Anthony Straight, Vernon Charles Miller, Juan Blanco, Robert Lasher, Keith Wells, and Eric White. Notably, Camille Applin-Jones was unable to attend and will be honored next year.
During the emotional event, Di Thompson, the 2025 chair of the board for the chamber, expressed gratitude for the veterans’ “unwavering service” and “profound sacrifice.” She emphasized, “You are not only defenders of our country, but also the pride of our community.” The message resonated deeply with attendees, reinforcing the importance of recognizing these local heroes.
The ceremony served as a platform for community members to nominate veterans who may not often receive recognition yet have made significant contributions. Ivan Volschenk, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber, urged residents to acknowledge those who strengthen the community.
As each honoree was introduced, local leaders shared heartfelt stories of their contributions. Robert Lasher, who volunteers at the SCV Food Pantry, spoke candidly about finding purpose after the loss of his wife during the pandemic. “It was nice that they were there to help me out and for me to help them out,” he shared, highlighting the mutual support within the community.
Emily White, who introduced her husband Eric during the event, expressed pride in his service-oriented spirit. “He has a servant’s heart,” she said, noting his dedication to helping others.
Mayor Bill Miranda reaffirmed the city’s commitment to supporting veterans, stating, “This community supports our veterans and always has, always will.” He underscored the need to care for those who have served, promising that the city will continue to honor their sacrifices.
The event not only celebrated the contributions of these veterans but also served as a reminder of the ongoing need to support and recognize the efforts of those who protect our freedoms. With local leaders and community members united, the 15th annual Salute to Patriots was a powerful affirmation of gratitude.
As we look ahead, residents are encouraged to participate in future nominations and continue supporting local veterans, ensuring their stories are told and their sacrifices honored.
