Sharks’ Pavol Regenda Heads to Olympics, Joins Fellow Stars

BREAKING: San Jose Sharks’ forward Pavol Regenda has been officially named to Slovakia’s roster for the upcoming Milan Cortina Olympic Games, set to begin on February 11, 2024. This announcement marks a significant moment for the Sharks, as Regenda will be joined by teammates Philipp Kurashev (Switzerland), Alexander Wennberg (Sweden), and Macklin Celebrini (Canada) in Italy.

Regenda, 26, has made a notable impact despite a limited presence on the ice this season, scoring three goals during a recent game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. His hat trick contributed to a tough 7-3 loss, showcasing his potential as a key player. Overall, he has recorded six goals this season, including a goal during Tuesday’s victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Although Regenda has spent a majority of the season with the AHL’s Barracuda, he was called up for his second stint with the Sharks on December 30. In 28 games with the Barracuda this season, he has netted four goals and provided eight assists.

This marks Regenda’s second Olympic appearance; he previously won a bronze medal with Slovakia in the 2022 Beijing Olympics, where he contributed with one goal and three assists. Throughout his career, he has represented Slovakia in four consecutive World Championships, tallying a total of nine goals in 29 games.

The men’s hockey tournament kicks off on February 11, when Slovakia faces off against Finland, while Sweden takes on the host nation, Italy. Teams including Switzerland, Canada, and the United States will commence their first games the following day.

This latest development adds to the excitement surrounding the Sharks as they send multiple players to represent their countries on an international stage. Fans are eager to see how Regenda will perform under the Olympic spotlight.
