UPDATE: In a commanding performance, Soquel High’s boys basketball team triumphed over Watsonville with a decisive score of 77-42 in a nonleague matchup held on January 5, 2024. This victory marks a significant turnaround for the Knights, who struggled offensively in previous games but showcased their strengths against the Wildcats.
Soquel jumped to an impressive lead, dominating the first quarter 29-11 and extending it to 48-16 by halftime. Senior center Connor Corlett led the charge with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, while senior Miles Johnson contributed 14 points to the scoreboard.
Knights coach Chris Christensen praised his team’s performance, stating, “We moved the ball better and created open shots for each other. I appreciate our team unselfishness.” The Knights have now improved their overall record to 6-3 and will face Pacific Grove on Monday at 7 p.m.
For Watsonville, senior forward/center Anthony Razo led the scoring with 9 points, while senior guard Max Aceves added 8 points. The Wildcats now hold a record of 4-2 and are set to host Saint Francis on Tuesday at 3 p.m.
