Tewksbury Fire Chief James J. Morris Passes Away at 97

UPDATE: Tewksbury’s beloved former Fire Chief, James J. Morris, has passed away at the age of 97. Morris died peacefully at his home on November 12, 2025, surrounded by his family, leaving behind a legacy of dedicated service to the community he cherished.

Morris, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, MA, was known not only for his leadership in the fire department but also for his unwavering commitment to public safety. He served as Fire Chief for over 38 years, retiring in 1988. His family, including his wife of 73 years, Constance R. Morris, and their four children, remember him as a devoted husband and father, deeply passionate about his role as a firefighter.

Born on June 28, 1928, in Lowell, MA, Morris enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps in 1950, serving during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1952. His military service was just the beginning of a life dedicated to serving others.

Morris is survived by his four children: Deborah J. Goodwin, James W. Morris, Constance R. Morris, and the late Frederick R. Morris. He also leaves behind eleven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous extended family members.

The family will hold a visitation on Wednesday, November 19, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home located at 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. A Funeral Mass will follow at 11:30 a.m. at St. William’s Church, situated at 1351 Main Street, Route 38, Tewksbury. The services will conclude with interment at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury.
