Times of San Diego Unveils Fresh Look for Community Papers Today

URGENT UPDATE: The Times of San Diego is rolling out a bold new print layout for its community newspapers, starting today, November 3, 2023. The redesigned editions of Uptown News, Beach & Bay Press, La Jolla Village News, and Downtown News will be available at various locations across the region, marking a significant shift in local journalism.

The redesign aims to enhance the visual appeal while ensuring high-quality content remains a priority. Julie Main, Operations & Community Relations Manager for Times of San Diego, emphasized the importance of maintaining quality during this transition. “Printing right now is a big challenge,” she stated. “The print size of this layout is going to be more cost-effective, which is important to keep our costs down as a non-profit.”

This change comes at a critical time for local journalism, where budget constraints can impact the quality of news reporting. Main highlighted that a streamlined budget allows for more funding to be directed towards journalism efforts. “All that budget concern is key to having the funding go where we believe it should go, and that’s to the journalism we provide,” she expressed.
