BREAKING: Tanner Jacobson has officially resigned as head coach of the Tyler Junior College (TJC) football team, opting to accept a coordinator position at an FCS school, he confirmed to the Tyler Morning Telegraph earlier today. Jacobson, who transformed TJC into a national contender in just four years, is expected to announce his new destination on Monday.
This decision comes after a remarkable season where Jacobson led the Apaches to an impressive 11-1 record, marking their best performance in 65 years. The team not only claimed back-to-back Southwest Junior College Football Conference regular season titles but also achieved an undefeated SWJCFC season and secured a spot in the NJCAA national semifinals in 2025.
Jacobson, a former all-state player from Southlake Carroll High School, expressed gratitude in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, thanking TJC and the Rose City for their support during his tenure. He stated, “Tyler Junior College will always be a part of who I am,” highlighting the emotional ties he developed with the community and his family, including his wife Beth and their young daughter Halle, born during his time at TJC.
Jacobson’s coaching journey began right after his graduation from Brigham Young University (BYU), where he had previously played. He joined the BYU coaching staff, contributing to two bowl appearances before moving to Snow College in Utah, where the Badgers achieved significant success under his leadership.
Notably, during his time with Snow College, Jacobson coached the 2021 NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year, Keionte Scott, who went on to sign with Auburn University. Under his guidance, the Badgers posted a combined record of 15-3 over two seasons, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star in college football coaching.
As the TJC community prepares to bid farewell to Jacobson, the focus now shifts to who will take the reins of the Apaches football program. With Jacobson’s departure, TJC will need to find a new leader capable of maintaining the momentum he built during his tenure.
Stay tuned for more updates on Jacobson’s new position and developments within the TJC football program as they unfold.
