UPDATE: Upper Darby firefighters are making a significant impact this Thanksgiving by delivering over 40 food boxes to families in need, just in time for the holiday. On November 25, 2023, members of the Upper Darby Fire Department gathered at the Cardington fire station to assemble and distribute these essential meals.
The heart of this initiative lies with retired Chief Ed Cubler, a lifelong Upper Darby resident who has dedicated decades to organizing Thanksgiving food baskets for struggling families. His commitment has inspired current firefighters and their families to unite in this noble cause.
Members of the IAFF Local 2493, along with new Fire Chief Nick Martin, quickly mobilized, ensuring that each of the 40+ boxes contained not only full meals but also additional items to create a festive Thanksgiving experience. According to the union’s Shop Steward, Josh Laubach, the delivery process was swift and efficient, showcasing the teamwork and dedication of those involved.
This initiative underscores the firefighters’ commitment to community service, particularly during a time when many families face food insecurity. The heartfelt efforts of these heroes go beyond their daily duties and highlight the spirit of giving that defines the holiday season.
As the community prepares for Thanksgiving, the Upper Darby Fire Department’s actions serve as a reminder of the importance of compassion and support for those less fortunate. The impact of this initiative will resonate through the community, bringing joy and relief to many families this holiday season.
