BREAKING: Auditions for the beloved musical “Annie” are set for December 13, 2023, at the Mineral Area College Fine Arts Theater. This is a must-attend event for aspiring young performers eager to take the stage in this iconic production.
The auditions will commence at 10 a.m. for actors 14 and under, followed by a session at 3 p.m. for those 15 and older. Callbacks are scheduled for December 14 at 6 p.m. at the MAC. Interested participants must prepare a 60- to 90-second song and bring an accompaniment track on a Bluetooth-compatible device. Note that acapella auditions are not allowed, and video submissions will not be accepted.
An email with audition preparation bundles—including character monologues and choreography videos—will be sent to actors upon submission of their audition forms. Those auditioning should arrive in appropriate dance attire, ready to memorize and perform both dances and monologues.
Roles available include Annie, Warbucks, Grace Farrell, Miss Hannigan, and many more ensemble members. Rehearsals will take place on weekdays from January 5 to February 25, 2024, from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., leading up to performances scheduled for February 26-28 at 7 p.m. and March 1 at 3 p.m.
Director Kaity Conaway, a teacher from Farmington, expressed her excitement about leading this production. “I’m super excited to get to direct Annie because it’s one of the first movie musicals I remember watching as a kid,” she stated. Her passion for theater shines through as she shares, “Annie has so many fun opportunities for choreography, both dance and just organized movement.”
Conaway is particularly looking forward to collaborating with choreographers Janna Hagerty and London Miscisin, who have already begun creating exciting choreography for the show. This marks a new chapter for Conaway, as it is the first musical she is directing outside the Farmington School District.
The anticipation surrounding “Annie” is palpable, and the community is encouraged to spread the word about these auditions. With only a few days left until the big day, aspiring performers should prepare now to seize this incredible opportunity.
For those interested, this could be a life-changing chance to shine on stage. Don’t miss out—mark your calendars for December 13!
