Residents, including local sanctuary owner Olivia Head, are alarmed by the potential disruption to their peaceful environment. “My animals that live here, they have a very peaceful and tranquil life, and that’s all set to be absolutely disrupted,” Head expressed, underscoring the emotional stakes involved.
The proposed development by David Weekley Homes requires a conditional rezone of 5.6 acres and has sparked significant backlash from neighbors in the nearby Windridge neighborhood. Local resident Nate described the situation as a “nightmare,” emphasizing the safety risks posed by increased traffic, particularly from nearby State Road 267.
At a recent meeting, the Brownsburg Advisory Plan Commission recommended that the developer engage with residents, present a comprehensive traffic study, and consider removing up to seven lots to address concerns. The town’s previous Development Services Director, Jenna Wertman, noted the initial plan included a pedestrian bridge across the creek, but that option has since been deemed “not feasible.”
Brownsburg Communications Senior Manager Shelby Abner released a statement, but David Weekley Homes has not yet responded to inquiries regarding the project. While some community members advocate for increased housing options, others like Nate and his wife Jodi stress the importance of prioritizing safety and community impact.
