Urgent: LIRR Service Disruptions This Weekend—Plan Ahead!

UPDATE: Major service disruptions are affecting the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) this weekend, with significant changes impacting both the Port Jefferson and Ronkonkoma branches. These alterations began early on October 7, 2023, and will last until 2:15 a.m. on October 9, 2023, according to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA).

Passengers on the Port Jefferson Branch should note that service is completely suspended between Mineola and Huntington. To accommodate affected commuters, hourly shuttle buses are being deployed, making stops at Hicksville, Syosset, and Cold Spring Harbor. Additionally, there will be no LIRR service at Carle Place and Westbury. Commuters can utilize the NICE n22, n24, or n35 buses, which will accept LIRR tickets without extra charges. Limited overnight shuttle bus service is also available at these stations.

On the Ronkonkoma line, trains are running every two hours between Penn Station and Ronkonkoma, but they will be rerouted via the south shore. Trains between Jamaica and Farmingdale will change direction twice and will not stop at any stations along that route. Passengers are advised to add at least 50 minutes to their travel time to reach their destinations.

Furthermore, there is no service at Bethpage. Commuters traveling to or from this station are encouraged to board trains at either Farmingdale or Seaford LIRR stations instead.

These changes are being implemented as transit officials carry out essential signal upgrade work in Hicksville.

Travelers are urged to plan their journeys accordingly and stay updated on service changes by visiting the MTA website.

Commuters are experiencing significant challenges this weekend, and it is crucial to remain informed for a smoother travel experience. Share this information with fellow train travelers to help them avoid disruptions!
