BREAKING: A man has been rushed to the hospital after being struck by a train near Santa Barbara on February 3, 2023. The incident occurred just before 5:49 p.m. on Cabrillo Boulevard, close to the Santa Barbara Cemetery, where emergency responders performed CPR on the victim throughout transport.
The Santa Barbara City Fire Department and Montecito Fire Department swiftly responded to the scene of the collision, which involved a northbound Amtrak passenger train. City Fire Battalion Chief Jon Turner confirmed that police officers initiated CPR, which was subsequently taken over by fire crews. The victim, whose age and identity remain unknown, was transported via American Medical Response ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
This incident marks the third train-related injury in southern Santa Barbara County this month. Earlier in February, a man tragically lost his life after being struck by the same northbound Amtrak Pacific Surfliner train near Milpas Street. The Coroner’s Bureau is currently investigating that case, and details about the deceased have not yet been released. Just days ago, on Tuesday, another man was severely injured after a collision with a freight train in Summerland.
