Urgent: Multiple Santa Fe Restaurants Fail Food Inspections Oct. 13-17

URGENT UPDATE: A series of alarming food service inspections in the Santa Fe area from October 13 to 17 has revealed critical violations at several establishments, raising concerns about public health and safety. The New Mexico Environment Department has reported multiple infractions, with many of these violations requiring immediate corrective action.

Santa Fe Bite, located at 1616 St. Michael’s Drive, was cited on October 14 for a shocking list of violations, including an employee handling food without gloves, improper thawing of chicken, and a dirty dishwasher. The establishment was also found to have mold, a hole in the wall, and unsealed sinks, prompting a requirement for reinspection within three business days.

At Yamas Greek Rotisserie, found at 2411 Cerrillos Road, inspectors noted violations on the same day, including a personal drink stored with ready-to-eat foods and missing internal thermometers in coolers.

The Wrap Santa Fe, located at 113 E. Water St. Unit 102, faced similar scrutiny on October 15 with issues such as torn seals on freezers and a blocked hand-wash sink.

In contrast, Tortilla Flats catering at 3139 Cerrillos Road, along with Crave (SITE Santa Fe), El Chile Toreado catering, and Maverick BonFire Grill, reported no violations during this inspection period, providing a brief relief amid the concerning trends.

However, the situation worsened at Salazar Elementary School and Santa Fe Preparatory School, both inspected on October 16. Salazar was cited for food stored on the floor, while Santa Fe Prep received numerous citations, including the presence of pests and unsealed sinks, highlighting a poorly maintained facility.

On October 17, Jaripeo Grill And Beer, located at 3565 Cerrillos Road, was found lacking soap at hand-wash sinks and had multiple significant issues, including improper thawing and employees not washing hands before putting on gloves. This establishment now requires a reinspection due to the severity of the violations.

Santa Fe Capitol Grill at 3462 Zafarano Drive also faced scrutiny with numerous violations, including dirty ice machines and uncovered food.

Walmart, located at 3251 Cerrillos Road, was cited for failing to have sanitizer made up at the time of inspection, alongside multiple sanitary issues in both the grocery and meat market sections of the store.

These findings underscore the urgent need for compliance with food safety regulations, as violations pose serious risks to public health. As these establishments work to rectify their infractions, the community is urged to remain vigilant about food safety practices.
