UPDATE: A powerful winter storm has blanketed Summit County with fresh snow, marking the first major powder day of the 2025-26 ski season. This morning, December 6, ski areas across the region reported impressive snow totals, providing a significant boost for winter sports enthusiasts.

In just the last 24 hours, here’s how much snow each ski area received:
Copper Mountain: 10 inches
Arapahoe Basin Ski Area: 9 inches
Keystone Resort: 9 inches
Breckenridge Ski Resort: 8 inches
Loveland Ski Area: 5 inches

Skiers are taking full advantage of the fresh powder, with many flocking to Copper Mountain to enjoy the pristine conditions. An excited skier captured the moment at Copper Mountain Resort earlier today, showcasing the exhilarating experience of skiing on fresh snow.

However, the excitement comes with caution. Summit County is currently under a winter storm warning that will remain in effect until 11 p.m. tonight. Authorities predict continued snowfall and strong winds, urging visitors and residents to stay updated on changing conditions.

Additionally, the Park Range and Gore Range are under a severe avalanche warning. Officials report Level 4 avalanche conditions (out of 5), advising anyone in backcountry areas to exercise extreme caution.

“Travel in backcountry avalanche terrain is not recommended during this time,”

stated local authorities. The warning is expected to last until 5 p.m. today.

As the storm progresses, ski patrols and local officials will continue to monitor conditions closely. Skiers and snowboarders are reminded to prioritize safety while enjoying the fresh snowfall.
