UPDATE: West Ranch girls’ basketball opened their Foothill League season with a hard-fought 26-20 victory over Golden Valley on December 2, 2025, at West Ranch High School. The game showcased an intense battle between two standout freshman guards, Mia Vallas of West Ranch and Brighton Blythe of Golden Valley, both of whom led their teams in scoring.
In a display of determination, Vallas scored an impressive 16 points, including two three-pointers, propelling the Wildcats to their seventh win of the season, improving their record to 7-1 overall and 1-0 in league play. “We battled the whole game. We played great defense and worked really hard,” said West Ranch head coach Paul Gross.
With the game evenly matched throughout, West Ranch outscored Golden Valley in every quarter, with a total of seven players contributing to the score. Freshman forward Arianna Corona added 12 points, showcasing the team’s depth and collective effort. Coach Gross commended his team, stating, “We got a great group from one to 12 of girls that just play hard all the time.”
For Golden Valley, the loss marks a challenging start to their league campaign, now standing at 4-3 overall and 0-1 in league play. Blythe led her team with 13 points on a solid 6-for-13 shooting performance. Despite the loss, the Grizzlies displayed resilience and are set to compete in the Northeast Valley tournament at Vaugh High School this Thursday and Friday, before returning home to face Castaic on Tuesday.
The Wildcats will hit the road for a critical matchup against the Castaic Coyotes on Friday, with the game scheduled for 5 p.m. The atmosphere is expected to be electric as both teams vie for a crucial win in the league standings.
After Tuesday’s action, other Foothill League scores included Saugus dominating Castaic with a score of 73-32, led by EvaMarie Rios with a double-double of 20 points and 10 assists. Meanwhile, Canyon defeated Hart 56-27, with Darby Dunn leading the Cowboys with 27 points.
