Main Line Health Launches Psychiatry Residency Hub at Bryn Mawr

Main Line Health has officially launched its first in-house Psychiatry Residency Program at Bryn Mawr Hospital, a significant step in enhancing mental health services in the region. The new facility, situated in the Founder’s Building at 101 S. Bryn Mawr Ave., integrates psychology and psychotherapy services with the residency program, which is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).

The establishment of this centralized hub aims to foster collaboration among medical professionals, strengthen educational opportunities, and ultimately enhance patient care. The initiative follows the transition of psychiatry residents to Main Line Health after the closure of Crozer Health, highlighting the pressing need for expanded mental health training and access.

The new Psychiatry Residency Program is designed to create a cohesive learning environment while improving access to care for the surrounding community. Main Line Health officials emphasized that the residency programs prioritize hands-on clinical experience tailored to meet community needs.

Curriculum and Staffing Details

The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes rotations in both inpatient and outpatient settings, covering specialties such as addiction psychiatry, child and adolescent psychiatry, consultation-liaison services, geriatric psychiatry, and emergency psychiatry. It is led by Program Director Brittni Jones, DO, who oversees the training and development of residents.

The new suite is staffed by a dedicated team, which includes eight psychologists and psychotherapists as well as five resident psychiatrists. Among them are Kenneth Wee and Robert Duprey, both in their fourth year of residency (PGY4), and Asa Thompson, Reema Patel, and Zita Jones, who are in their third year (PGY3). This team is now actively accepting new patients, marking a new chapter in mental health care at Bryn Mawr Hospital.

Main Line Health officials noted that this expansion aligns with the system’s broader growth strategy in response to the increasing demand for mental health services. The dedicated facility not only aims to enhance continuity of care but also to support the training of future physicians, ensuring that high-quality psychiatric services are accessible to patients across the Main Line area.

The Psychiatry Residency Hub officially opened its doors on December 8, 2023. As mental health continues to gain attention and importance in healthcare discussions, this initiative represents a proactive approach to addressing the needs of the community while training the next generation of mental health professionals.
