The delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip has significantly increased since the U.S.-brokered ceasefire between Israel and Hamas began on October 10, 2023. According to the Israeli Defense Ministry’s Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT), approximately 16,600 aid trucks have entered Gaza during this period.
A substantial portion of the aid comprises essential food supplies. COGAT reported that around 70 percent of the trucks carried food, totaling nearly 370,000 tons. In an effort to address the dire nutritional needs of the population, nearly 200 makeshift kitchens are now operational, producing an impressive 1.5 million meals daily for residents of Gaza.
Winter Preparations and Medical Evacuations
In addition to food, COGAT has focused on preparing Gaza for the winter months. The agency has coordinated with the international community to deliver more than 250,000 tarpaulins and tents to assist those affected by the conflict. Continuous fuel supplies are also being sent to support critical sanitation efforts in the region.
On Monday, COGAT facilitated the departure of nearly 300 Gazans in need of medical treatment, along with their caregivers and individuals holding dual citizenship or valid visas. These individuals exited Gaza through the Kerem Shalom Crossing and proceeded to the Allenby Bridge Crossing into Jordan, from where they could travel to third countries. This operation followed requests from foreign governments and the United Nations, with all individuals approved by the Israeli security establishment.
In a statement, COGAT emphasized the importance of continued coordination among countries and organizations to ensure that necessary support and medical care reach those in need. The ongoing efforts aim to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza as the situation remains critical.
