Woman Charged in Illegal Cosmetics Case, Released Due to Pregnancy

A woman identified by the initials ML, aged 35, has been charged with producing and distributing illegal cosmetics under the brand LC Beauty. The Directorate of Drug Crime Investigation under the National Police of Indonesia announced the charges but decided not to detain her due to her pregnancy.

On March 5, 2026, Brigjen Eko Hadi Santoso, the Director of Drug Crime Investigation, stated that the decision not to detain ML was influenced by her condition. He noted that she is nine weeks pregnant and recently underwent surgery.

The investigation revealed strong evidence of ML’s involvement in the production of cosmetics without the necessary distribution permits. Furthermore, the products in question were found to contain hazardous materials.

Brigjen Santoso emphasized ML’s role as both the distributor and owner of the home-based cosmetic business. The case highlights ongoing concerns regarding the safety of cosmetic products in the market and the need for stricter regulations to protect consumers.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the broader network behind the illegal production and distribution of cosmetics, aiming to hold accountable those involved in similar operations. The health and safety of consumers remain a top priority for the Indonesian police as they work to dismantle these illegal activities.
